About Indo-Canada Cup
The Indo-Canada Cup is a biennial national ball hockey tournament that celebrates the diversity of our players and their shared passion for the sport.
Welcome to the 2023 Indo-Canada Cup powered by Apna Hockey
Apna Hockey will be presenting the 7th installment of this national tournament that was founded in 2008. The Indo-Canada Cup is one of the largest ball hockey tournaments in the South Asian community; it brings together the top ball hockey teams & players from across Canada. We will be hosting this year’s event in Calgary, AB from May 5th to May 7th. The tournament currently has 20+ teams registered and upwards of 400 ball hockey players that will be attending the Indo-Canada Cup.
Apna Hockey is a nationally registered non-profit organization that is dedicated to growing the game of hockey & providing avenues for South Asians to get into the game on and off the ice.
The organization was founded in 2017 by Lali Toor & Dampy Brar and has received the highest honor/award in the game of hockey as a non-profit. In 2020, Co-Founder Dampy Brar became the first person of South Asian descent to win an NHL award in its 100+ year history. The Willie O’Ree Community Hero Award is named after the first black player to ever play in the NHL. The award is given to a person representing an organization that is creating change and growing the game of hockey into their respective community. Today, Apna Hockey works with several NHL teams and their grassroots level programs to establish access points for South Asian youth to try out hockey and become lifelong fans.
We want to personally welcome all competitors, staff, and fans to the 2023 Indo-Canada Cup. This year’s turnout has been the largest to date; we will continue to grow the tournament moving forward.
The South Asian community has always been a large supporter of hockey and this tournament is the epitome of that exact statement. Whether it is on the street, on cement or ice – this tournament showcases our community and shows the hockey world that we are here and the love we have for the game.
Good luck to all teams – let’s go.
